CPD & training for teachers

Join the National Teachers' Choir

Ula Weber and I formed NTC in 2015. We know that lots of teachers like to sing,

for their own pleasure and musical development, to enhance their teaching,

and for the experience of working with their peers. So we want to showcase teachers

singing together at national level.

The National Teachers Choir (NTC) is an unauditioned choir that builds singing confidence and achieves singing excellence. It brings together teachers from across the country and across key stages, to develop them as a national choir whilst also celebrating the joy of singing and sharing ideas to take back to school.

Repertoire

A range of styles and genres, including popular and light classics, uplifting gospel and other random and funky stuff. We learn everything in a single weekend - fast paced but fun. We're going to challenge and inspire you, but don't worry about being able to read music - there are other ways!

How does it work?

We hold weekend sessions once per term in different places around the country, bringing with us NTC members and recruiting teachers from the local area. It's a great opportunity to visit new places, get away from it all and enjoy singing with other teachers. At the end of the Summer term we have an annual residency at Snape Maltings - the musical mecca on the Suffolk coast - which is the perfect way to unwind after the rigours of the academic year.

Vocal Leadership Training Programme logo
SfP's Vocal Leadership Training Programme

Confidence and expertise in leading vocal groups is one of the most significant musical

needs of teachers, and yet access to top quality training in vocal leadership has been

limited. Until now! Leading choral organisation Sing for Pleasure offers an affordable

package of vocal leadership training for school clusters and music service providers

throughout the UK, coupled with further opportunities to develop excellent singing.

Who it’s for

Beginner vocal leaders, such as those having recently formed or taken over a choir, or wanting to do so

  • Vocal leaders with a small amount of experience

  • More experienced vocal leaders wanting to refresh their technique

Teachers who have completed the VLTP will have gained the necessary skills to lead singing with children confidently and efficiently, and develop more responsive choirs. These skills are also transferable to instrumental groups, and will enhance confidence in presentation.

How it works

Based on SfP’s highly successful 5-Day Course (Foundation & Intermediate 1 levels), this flexible 5-day programme is for school teachers and/or staff from music service providers, giving them the opportunity to learn new skills, develop their technique and explore

a wide range of unaccompanied repertoire in a stimulating and supportive environment. The 5 days include:-

  • Technique sessions, including practical demonstrations of all the key aspects of conducting

  • Workshop sessions, giving participants ample podium time to put into practice what they have learnt

  • Repertoire sessions, showing teachers how to use SfP resources effectively in the classroom and beyond

  • Certification, upon completion, as a Sing for Pleasure Singing Leader

The course can be spread out over a period of months (up to 1 year) and on different days/times of the week

(including twilights and Saturdays) to suit participants, and to avoid excessive cover costs for schools.
